WHAT IS AN INTERNATIONAL SECTION?
WHAT IS AN INTERNATIONAL SECTION?
An International Section is a programme within the French public education system designed for children growing up in a bilingual or international environment. International Sections exist in several languages, and they allow pupils to follow the French national curriculum while receiving part of their education in another language, taught at native-language level. The aim is to support children who already have a strong connection to another language, whether through their family background, previous schooling, or life abroad.
In a British Section, pupils benefit from additional teaching in English – in language, literature, history and geography – alongside their regular French classes. This helps them develop confidence and fluency in both languages while remaining fully part of the French school system. Over time, students learn to work comfortably in two languages and gain a deeper understanding of both cultures.
The GrandChêne Section Internationale programme is particularly well suited to mixed Anglo-French families living in France, French families returning after time spent abroad who wish their children to continue developing their English within the public education system, and international families settling in France who want their children to integrate into local schools while maintaining a strong level of English. It offers an affordable, balanced education that combines academic expectations with an international outlook, preparing students for future studies in France or abroad.
