AN EVENING OF POETRY AND DRAMA

The thespians of the Section Internationale once again delighted audiences at Lycée Corneille at the end of March with poetry and drama.

Students in 1ère and Terminale profited from the professional guidance of Rebecca Gulka, primary and collège teacher with a wealth of acting and directing experience. Ms Gulka adapted the beginning and ending of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, and 1ère students Maya Champion, Sophie Denizet, Una Jullien, Louise LeGall Powell-Smith and Mathilde Roche illuminated the wit and absurdity of Tom Stoppard’s play.

Terminale students Zoé Godard and Claire Lavergne adapted the text of Richard III to create a fast-paced rendition of Act 1 of Shakespeare’s tragedy. Terminale students Farah Abdelkhalek (Rivers), Chloé Adoutte (First Murderer), Jade Berouard (Buckingham), Zoé Godard (Queen Margaret), Adèle Josserand (Lady Anne), Zac Kendall (Queen Elizabeth), Claire Lavergne (Richard), Charles LeGall Powell-Smith (Hastings), Shanti Mabro (Second Murderer), Colin Pequignot (Brakenbury), Titouan Savigny (Catesby) and Noah Swan (Clarence) made the evening a memorable one with their last dramatic performance of their Section years.

In addition to the evening performance for family and friends, both groups performed for European Section students during a school day. The experience of acting these texts is not only enjoyable but can also help with exam preparation since the texts are studied in class for the OIB.

Troisième pupils Ben Godard, Annik Jullien, Julia Sockett and Marine Vermet rounded out the evening with presentations of the poems they had memorised for the internal Poetry by Heart competition.

After the outstanding performances, families and students celebrated around a buffet in the Foyer des Elèves.
